Border Leicesters

Known for their lustrous locks and lean bodies, Border Leicesters are versatile sheep that descended from Old English Leicesters. Border Leicesters can be either black or white, but should not have any mixing of colors in their wool.

Breed Characterisitcs

Border Leicesters are easily identified by their roman nose and long, erect ears. Their head and legs are free from wool, making then easy to shear.

Wool

Border Leicester wool is known for its unique pencil locks and curled tips. A typical Border Leicester will produce 6-10 inches of wool annually. 

Meat

Border Leicesters are well muscled sheep that produce  lean meat. They grow quickly and can reach 100 pounds by approximately four months of age. 

Temperment

Border Leicesters are known for their docile temperament. Despite their distinct alert posture, they are easy to handle and relatively calm sheep.
